Bert Hilbert Schluckebier went to his Lord on October 24, 2018. He was born on August 12, 1933 to Ludwig and Edna Deuring Schluckebier who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Carol Rebber of 56 years, brother Arlen (Vicky) of Rockford, IL, Elroy (Jean), Larry (Debbie) of Frankenmuth, Dennis (Karen) of Midland and daughter Cyndi (Mark) Major of Birch Run and son Philip (Melinda) of Longmont, CO, along with grandchildren Megan and Tiffany of Longmont, CO and Josh and Lucas Major of Birch Run. Bert is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill (Mary) Rebber, Jim (Ruth Ann) Rebber, Jerry (Lisa) Rebber, and JoAnn Beleslin all of Indiana. He is predeceased by his sister Janet Curtis, and brothers-in-law Bill Beleslin and Rick Rebber.
Bert enjoyed selling perennials from his garden, playing cards, running estate sales, working with antique furniture, watching the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. In earlier years, he was the Gera Dramatic president, Sunday School secretary, Deacon, worked the Summer Music Fest for 40 years, was 8 th grade Salutatorian, corresponded with people from Germany and served in the US Army. Bert worked at Universal Engineering as an office clerk and was a part-time bartender at Zehnder's Restaurant for 37 years. He managed Saginaw Paint, Bridgeport branch, and worked as a bookkeeper for Baker Sales.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Shawn Fenske will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Bert's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the 10:15 a.m. service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Men's Choir or St. Lorenz Foundation.
