Carl P. DeMaet

Frankenmuth, MI

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, October 11, 2024 at his home; age 97 years. Carl was born on May 6, 1927 in Saginaw, MI to the late August and Catherine (Petricevic) DeMaet. He was married to Mary Ayala on January 30, 1965; she survives him.

Carl graduated from Saginaw High School. He enlisted in the U.S Army at age 17, attending Army Finance School. He served in the Pacific Arena Korea, receiving WWII Victory Medal of Honor. He later studied at Michigan State University on courses in animal husbandry, horticulture, elevator and farm supply. He owned and operated C. DeMaet Excavating Co., Johnny on the Spot, and DeMaet Septic Tank Service. He was a former owner of Bridgeport Pools. He also was a land and property developer.

Carl was a member of St. Frances de Sales Parish in Bridgeport, Bridgeport Country Club, the American Legion Post 150, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in starting and was a member of Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce and served on the board. He drafted plans for many projects in the Bridgeport community including the Bridgeport Library and the Bridgeport Post Office. He was an avid hunter, golfer, and fisherman and had a deep passion for gardening. He served on the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years and was known to many for his witty sense of humor.

Surviving besides his wife Mary are: their children, Paul DeMaet of Rapid City, SD, Pauline DeMaet of Bay City, MI, also Debbie (Michael) Carson of Huffman, TX, Doreen (George) Armendarez of Bay City, MI; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by daughter Diane Bitner, son David DeMaet, and brother Donald DeMaet.

Funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Frances de Sales Parish, 3945 Williamson Rd. Saginaw, MI.  Fr. John Mancini will officiate. Carl's family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church.
