Passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Wellspring Lutheran Services, Saginaw; age 87 years.
Carl was born on February 14, 1935 in Rockford, IL to the late Karl and Elizabeth Enge. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rockford. As a boy growing up in Centerville, he worked at his father Karl's Centerville Greenhouse. Carl graduated from Winnebago High School in 1953.
Carl attended the University of Illinois where he received his B.S. in Floriculture in 1957. He was married to his surviving wife Kathryn on June 8, 1958 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rockford IL. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1958-1966, retiring as a First Lieutenant. He was employed in the wholesale flower business as a grower at Webbs' Greenhouse, growing both cut and potted flowers. Later he was part owner of Amling Flowers and Pana Greenhouses, Inc., growing chiefly cut roses. Later, Carl moved to Brenham TX and served as a grower at Ellison's Greenhouses.
In Pana, he was a youth baseball coach, Scoutmaster, and member of the Lions Club (past President). He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pana, where he served as President and Elder. After moving to Texas, Carl was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. He most recently was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Frankentrost.
Surviving besides his wife Kathryn are sons Christopher Enge (Heidi) and Jonathan Enge (Jennifer), grandchildren Rachel Yaeger (Kaleb) and Sarah Englehardt (Nate), great grandchild Ezra, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 8220 Holland Rd., Frankentrost, MI. Rev. Mark Loest will officiate with burial in St. John's Cemetery, Frankentrost. Carl's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne IN (ctsfw.edu) or the National Parks Foundation (nationalparks.org). The family also encourages buying flowers at your local florist to enjoy with your friends and loved ones.
