Obituary

Carol A. von Behren

Carol A. von Behren, 91, of Frankenmuth, Michigan went to be with her Lord on June 17, 2022.  Carol Augusta von Hoffmann was born on September 18, 1930 in New York City, NY to the late Theodore and Marie (Bredehoft) von Hoffmann.  She married Erich von Behren August 6, 1955 in New York City.  Carol graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, where she met her husband, Erich.  Carol taught third grade for several years at St. Lorenz School.  Both Carol and Erich were members of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, MI for many years.

Carol's husband Erich predeceased her on May 12, 2020.  Carol's one sibling Linda Orr recently predeceased her.  Carol and Erich have four sons; Erich (Barbara) von Behren of Centennial, CO, Dave (Andrea) von Behren of Commerce, MI, John (Glenda) von Behren of Falls City, NE, and Paul (Sherri) von Behren of Dunwoody, GA; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Carol and Erich were a great marriage team.  They made an effort to share their gifts, time, and talents with others, whether this involved purchasing clothing for disadvantaged girls in a group home called Ashwald in the Frankenmuth area, or whether it was to volunteer coach the Frankenmuth High School Girls Tennis team for a full season when the need arose.  Although Carol developed short term memory loss in the last five years, one of her gifts throughout life was that of being a great conversationalist and sharing life stories.  Carol was also active for many years in the Frankenmuth Women's club, selling annual flower plantings to fund-raise for the club.  After surviving colon cancer in the 1970's, Carol fulfilled a promise she made to God to console and witness to many others experiencing cancer, often relaying the importance of good nutrition.  When putting life in perspective, Carol often stated one of her most important tasks was to raise four Christian boys that would be good citizens of this country.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin Street. Followed by burial in St. Lorenz Cemetery. Carol's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. Lorenz Church Music Department.

A future celebration of life memorial service for both Erich and Carol featuring sacred music is to be held in the months to come at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, MI.
