Aug 1, 1949 — Mar 26, 2022
Charles Curell
Vassar, MI
Charles Louis Curell, aged 72, died peacefully March 26, 2022, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. The son of the late Remy and Gladys Curell, Charlie was born August 1, 1949, in Flint, Michigan. He was a proud North Branch Bronco, graduating in 1967. Soon after graduating Charlie went into the Army. A proud veteran, he honorably served as a member of the 14 th Armored Calvary stationed in Fulda, Germany. Upon leaving the Army, Charlie worked for General Motors and retired after 30 years of service having worked at various plants. Most recently he was a dedicated crossing guard for the city of Vassar.
On May 11, 1991, Charlie was united in marriage to his loving wife, Connie. He is survived by her, his children Marc of Burton, Michelle (Brad) Peel of North Branch and Carly of Madison Heights, as well as grandchildren Memphis and Remi Peel. He is also survived by his father-in-law Norbert Meyer, uncles Lawrence Curell, John Dallas (Elizabeth) Curell, aunt Janet Curell, and sister-in-law Janet (Joe) Plas.
Along with his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister Linda Crawford, brother Robert Curell, sister Jewel Curell, and mother-in-law Adelaide Meyer.
Charlie loved to tell stories, especially about growing up on his family farm, going to a one room schoolhouse and his time spent in the Army. He was the type of person who would reach out and talk to anyone. Charlie led a life of service and commitment, being a lifelong Mounted Division member, a founding member of the Tuscola County Dive Rescue Team and at his passing the current Post Commander of the American Legion Post #181 in Mayville.
Some of Charlie's passions were golfing and traveling. In the 30 years he and Connie were married, they traveled to all 50 states and several countries. He especially enjoyed visiting National Parks and Civil War battlefields. He opened his home to 5 exchange students: Frederik from Denmark, Pia, Elisabeth and Jess from Germany and Mayo from Japan. He greatly enjoyed learning about their customs and ways. Charlie also looked forward to deer hunting season. Although he rarely had luck, he did enjoy a stroll in the woods and a nap.
Charlie's family would like to express their deep thanks and appreciation for the outstanding care he received from the oncology and bone marrow doctors and staff at U of M hospital and especially to nurses Kortney and Alli on 8A and Carolyn and Abi in the ICU.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 E. Tuscola Rd., Frankenmuth, Michigan. Fr. Patrick Jankowiak will preside, along with family cousin Fr. Steve Gavit as celebrant. Charlie's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N.
