David (Shad) Gehrs of Frankenmuth passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Covenant Harrison. He fought a valiant fight for many years, but has now been made whole and is resting in the arms of Jesus along with many of his dear friends and family members.
David was born on December 13, 1947 in Chicago, IL to the late Martin and Mildred Gehrs. He was married to Kathy Sandfort on July 24, 1976. David honorably served his country in the United States Army and was self-employed prior to his retirement. He had a strong Christian faith and was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. He was a strong supporter of his wife during her teaching career at St Lorenz Lutheran School where he often volunteered throughout the years. He loved his family, his grandchildren were his world, and he was an avid reader.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathy; twins Chris (Alicia) Gehrs of Mason, MI and Katie (Meech Jones) Gehrs of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren Caroline and Nathan Gehrs and Desean, Peyton, and Chloe Jones; brother Mike (Karen) Gehrs; In-laws Dan Jewell, Tom (Irma) Sandfort, Jim (Melanie) Sandfort, George (Helen) Sandfort, and Mary (Paul) Roberts and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his sister Barb Jewell.
Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate. Cremation has taken place. David's family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to James E. Wickson District Library or St. Lorenz Lutheran School.
