Passed away peacefully Friday August 27, 2021 at Wellspring Lutheran Services; age 81 years. David was born on February 23, 1940 in Saginaw, MI to the late Norman and Valinda (Meyer) Maves. David was a proud alumni of the University of Michigan. He was married to Gertrude Zehnder on May 18, 1985, she predeceased him on April 15, 2018. He was employed by The Wickes Corporation as CFO until his retirement. Local history was one of Dave's greatest passions. David was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. He served on the Board of Evangelism, and the Historical Museum of St. Lorenz. Dave was very active with the Frankenmuth Historical Association. He was also a member of MENSA, Triple Nine Society and Intertel. He was the recipient of Rotary's Paul Harris Award. A long-time volunteer at the Lutheran Home, and he wrote for the Frankenmuth News under the pen name of Foolscap. He was an avid outdoorsman and spoke of many memories of fishing and hunting with his father.
Surviving are children Jonathan (Kathy) Zehnder of Frankenmuth, MI, Jessica (Randy) Beadle of Saginaw, MI, Jeremy (Shelley) Zehnder of Birch Run, MI, Jamison (Karen) Zehnder of Frankenmuth, MI; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law Marie Creger and Fran Warnemuende.
Besides his wife Gertrude, David was preceded in death by son and daughter-in-law Julian (Jane) Zehnder; daughter-in-law Jill Zehnder.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate. The service will also be live streamed at www.stlorenz.org/stream . David's family will receive visitors at church on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Wellspring Lutheran Hospice, or the St. Lorenz Historical Museum.
