Donald Hemming

Frankenmuth, MI

Passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 at Holiday Winter Village in Frankenmuth; age 76 years.  Donald was born on August 17, 1948 in Dearborn, MI to the late Gunnar and Florence (Cichonsky) Hemming. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman during the Vietnam Era. Don was a Crawford County Deputy Sheriff and a Washtenaw County Deputy Sheriff, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 150 in Frankenmuth, where he served on the Board of Directors. Don lived in several places throughout his life, Walled Lake, MI, Grayling, MI, and Ann Arbor, MI.  After his retirement from the Sheriff's Department, Don's love of trains and railroading led him to Duluth, Minnesota, where he volunteered as a railroad engineer and conductor.

Surviving are his brother Kenneth Hemming and sister-in-law Dianne (LeFave) Hemming, a special uncle Ervin Cichonsky, beloved cousins, nieces and nephews, and two lifelong friends Tim Coe and Jeff Still.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister Linda Marie Hemming.

Cremation has taken place.  A private memorial service will take place at a later date.
