Doris Velva Stoner, Frankenmuth, MI, was peacefully called to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Covenant Glen at the age of 86 years. Doris was born on May 31,1937, in Battle Creek, MI, daughter of the late Lester and Velva (Crane) Rozell. Doris was the beloved wife of Douglas Dean Stoner who predeceased her on December 23, 2015. They were united in marriage on July 31,1955, in Battle Creek and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2015. She was the loving mother of daughter, Teri (David) Bender, of Frankenmuth, and son, Richard (Sheri) Stoner also of Frankenmuth. She was the proud and adored grandmother of Amanda (Jesus) Grafilo, Shelby Township, MI; Stephen (Jennifer) Bender, Frankenmuth, MI; Matthew (Laura) Bender, Sterling Heights, MI; Natisha Jorae (Dan DeFoy), Ontonagon, MI; Amber and Lourdes Stoner, Lansing, MI. She was Great Grandma, fondly known as Gigi, to Charles, Henry, Amelia and Frederick Bender; Maya and Miguel Grafilo; Daisy Bender; Kiara DeFoy. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law Geneva (Harold) McDonald; sisters-in-law Donna Rozell and Pat Rozell and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Velva Rozell; two brothers, Kenneth and Gordon Rozell; sister Jeanette (Rozell) Cronkhite.
Doris graduated from W.K. Kellogg Agriculture School in Hickory Corners, MI, in 1955. Doris and her husband Doug moved to Frankenmuth in May,1969. Doris was employed by and worked in the offices of Bronner's Christmas Wonderland and in 1989 was recognized for her twenty years of appreciated service. On August 1, 1982, Doris and Doug purchased The Village Store of Frankenmuth which they owned and managed until their retirement in April, 2009. Doris and Doug also managed the Frankenmuth Brewery gift shop and operated the Frankenmuth Mill (Nickless-Hubinger Flour Mill) and General Store. Doris treasured family gatherings and spending time playing Euchre and travelling with her dear friends. Doris and Doug spent winters in Florida where they made many lasting friendships.
Doris was a confirmed member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Her Confirmation verse was Luke 11:28 (ESV), "But Jesus said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" She was active as a service coordinator, assisted with the funeral dinner ministry committee, and volunteered at The Clothesline Thrift Store in Frankenmuth.
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola St. in Frankenmuth. The service will be livestreamed at https://stlorenz.org/stream/ . Doris' family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Shawn Fenske will officiate the funeral and with burial in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of condolences may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church or St. Lorenz Social Ministry for those in need.
The family would like to thank the staff at Covenant Glen of Frankenmuth and Wellspring Lutheran Services - Hospice Care for their dedicated and loving care.
