Obituary

Dorothy Marie Kueffner

Frankenmuth, MI

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, Heaven welcomed Dorothy Kueffner, one of God's most willing servants throughout her life on earth. For almost 30 years Dorothy has managed to live a very active life while dealing with chronic liver disease.

Dorothy Frank's life began on January 13, 1934 when she was born to Walter and Erna Weber Frank. She was baptized at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and later attended St. Lorenz elementary school. She completed her education at Arthur Hill High School.

In 1961 Dorothy married Jack Thornton. Jack's job took them to several cities including Midland, MI, Roselle, IL, and Morristown, TN. While living in Midland, Dorothy and Jack adopted two children, Steven in 1965, and Diane in 1967. Jack died in 1994 and in 1996 Dorothy moved back to Frankenmuth. Although she always worked part-time Dorothy always found time to serve her Lord while at St. Lorenz. She was a member of the St. Lorenz Treble Choir and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, where she served in many capacities. Her brilliant smile welcomed church goers in her role as a greeter at the church and she also visited newcomers to the city as an active member of the Hands of Friendship Committee. Dorothy helped serve the funeral luncheons for many years and she was a delegate from St. Lorenz to Wellspring Auxiliary.

Dorothy loved to travel both in the U.S. and abroad. She visited Germany on several occasions and also China, Thailand, and the Holy Land.

On May 13, 2005, Dorothy married Edwin Kueffner of Frankenmuth who preceded her in death on September 21, 2020. During their 15 years together, they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Germany.

Dorothy is survived by her son Steve (Camille) and her daughter Diane Thornton; 3 grandsons Andrew and Brandon Wallen and Jackson Thornton; and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Arnold (Mary) Frank; sisters-in-law Joann Frank and Kathleen Frank, and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are stepchildren Ken (Diane) Kueffner, Doug (Edie) Kueffner, Tony (Lori) Kueffner, Steve (Cathy) Kueffner and 12 step-grandchildren. In addition, Dorothy is survived by stepsiblings Henry Kueffner, Leroy Schluckebier, Wallace (Helga) Schluckebier, Stuart (Elisabeth) and Diane (Jim) Karst, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's Jack and Edwin, her brother Marwood and Howard Frank, and stepbrother Floyd Schluckebier.

Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Dorothy's family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. Lorenz Media Ministry or Wellspring Hospice.
