Passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 12, 2023, at his home; age 80 years. Ed was born on May 5, 1943 in Saginaw, MI to the late Ruben and Meta (Keinath) Roedel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lorenz. He graduated class of 1961 from Frankenmuth High School. Ed honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1968. Ed married Pat (Roedel) Griffis on September 11, 2004; she survives him. Ed was employed by Saginaw Steering Gear/Delphi for 33.7 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and their adult choir, also he volunteered at church in many capacities. Ed was a member of the Frankenmuth Snowmobile Club, America Legion Post 150, Frankenmuth VFW 2725, and the Lancer Car Club. Ed enjoyed traveling, bowling, playing cards, mowing the lawn, and spending time with his friends. He greatly enjoyed being the biggest helper to everyone.
Surviving besides his wife Pat are sisters Verna Besancon and Marie (Ralph) Worden; sisters-in-law Kay Brzak, Amy (Tim) Dettmann, Joy (Maynard) Scherzer; stepchildren Jeremy (Christine) Griffis, Angie (Matt) Muehlfeld; grandchildren Ian Muehlfeld, Maddalyn Muehlfeld, Katerina Muehlfeld, Gracie Griffis, Mackley Griffis, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Ed was preceded in death by brothers-in-law John Besancon and Mark Leach; stepfather Albert Schellhas and many dear friends.
Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 3455 S. Van Buren Road, Richville, Michigan. Rev. Wesley Gillaspie will officiate with burial in St. Lorenz Cemetery. Ed's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Michaels Lutheran Church, Richville.
