Edward Harold VanWormer, age 82, of Frankenmuth, MI, passed away on May 20, 2026 at Covenant Medical Center Cooper, following a brief illness.

Ed was born June 9, 1943 to Theodore and Selma (Herzog) VanWormer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and remained a lifelong member. He graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 1961 and enlisted in the US Navy. He was a proud Navy Veteran and was active in both the Frankenmuth American Legion and VFW chapters. Edward was an Adjunct Officer for the VFW and a member of the American Legion Color Guard.

After serving his country, Ed worked for the city of Frankenmuth, water department, for several years before beginning his career at Delco Chassis, Saginaw, as a boiler operator where he worked for nearly 35 years. In addition, Ed owned and operated VanWormer Firewood and Frankenmuth Cleaners for many years.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking several trips out west and to Canada. As a member of the Frankenmuth Snowmobile Club, he enjoyed snowmobiling in Northern Michigan, the UP and even a trip to Yellowstone.

Nearing retirement, Ed explored the joy of the snowbird lifestyle and began spending time during the cold Michigan winters in Florida. What started out as a few weeks in January blossomed into 6 months in Michigan, 6 months in Florida each year for the last several years which allowed him to golf year-round.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Scott VanWormer and Shelley VanWormer, both of Frankenmuth, the light of his life, his granddaughter, Eden Linda VanWormer of Frankenmuth, significant other, Gail Bielskis of Frankenmuth and Englewood, FL., a sister, Margaret McCormick of Frankenmuth, several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Ed was predeceased by his parents, brother Donald VanWormer, sister Shirley Schmidt and the mother of his children, Linda Humphrey.

Memorial Service will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Edward’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Legion Post 150 or St. Lorenz Lutheran School.
