At age 98, went to be with his Lord Monday, September 21, 2020, at Medilodge of Frankenmuth, Ed was born on April 28, 1922 in Frankenmuth, MI to the late John and Margaret Kueffner. He was married in 1949 to Marian Schluckebier, who predeceased him on March 23, 2001. He later married Dorothy Thornton, who survives him. Ed was a finish carpenter for John C. Kueffner Builder (his father) and later for Weber Lumber and Millwork, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, serving as a church elder and member of St. Lorenz Willing Workers. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Saginaw. He was a founding member of the Lottanois Club of Frankenmuth. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family especially at holiday gatherings. He enjoyed traveling with Marian and in recent years with Dorothy on trips to visit her son and family in Tennessee and bus tours throughout the U.S. Listening to and attending Detroit Tiger's games was special for Ed as were his annual deer hunting trips with his family. Working in his shop on a special project for a family member or helping with a remodel gave Ed pleasure in his years after retirement.
Surviving besides his wife Dorothy are four sons; Ken (Diane) Kueffner of Caro, Doug (Edie) Kueffner of Frankenmuth, Tony (Lori) Kueffner of Frankenmuth, Steven (Cathy) Kueffner of Frankenmuth; son-in-law Chris Niquette of Dayton, Ohio; stepson Steve Thornton (Camille) of Memphis, Tennessee, stepdaughter Diane Thornton of Iowa; 15 grandchildren Craig (Laura) Kueffner, John (Joanna) Kueffner, Stephanie Judd, Chip (Caitlyn) Niquette, Annie Niquette, Ben Niquette, Eric (Emily) Kueffner, Sally Kueffner, Brad Kueffner, Megan Kueffner, Alex Kueffner, Kristin Kueffner, Jackson Thornton, Andrew Wallen, and Brandon Wallen; four great-grandchildren Hannah, Casey, Leo, and Maisie Kueffner; brother Henry J. Kueffner, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Marian, Ed was preceded in death by his daughter Laurie Kueffner-Niquette, brothers and sisters John Kueffner, Herb Kueffner, Margaret Kueffner, and Marion Faison.
Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Shawn Fenske will officiate. Ed's family will receive visitors on Friday at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth 590 N. Franklin from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church Willing Workers or Habitat for Humanity, Saginaw Chapter.
