Elberta Poellet

Frankenmuth, MI

Elberta Lucille (Weiss) Poellet passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the age of 98 years. Elberta was born on March 9, 1927, at the family home to Adam and Emma (Warnick) Weiss.  She was a lifelong resident of Frankenmuth, MI, and a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.  After her elementary education at St. Lorenz, she attended Arthur Hill High School, graduating in 1945.  She then attended cosmetology school, which led to her lifelong profession at various salons and then at the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home.

She married Hilbert Poellet on August 14, 1948, and they celebrated 54 years together before he passed in 2003.  They were blessed with four children: Allen (Donna), Jean (Alan) Rodammer, Julie (Ken) Corrion, and Carol Moulton.  They were also blessed with 11 grandchildren (Trista, Mindy, Libby, Nick, Josh, Abby, Andrew, Alex, Zach, Emma, and Lydia) and 18 great-grandchildren (Brady, Tyler, Emily, Avery, Brooklyn, Camryn, Ben, Britten, James, Zeke, Miles, Maddox, Paxton, Calvin, Scarlett, Marleigh, Blake and Peyton).  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Carol in 2017, and by her siblings, Ervin Weiss and Dorothy K. Bierlein.

In addition to working full time, she enjoyed cooking, baking (especially cookies!), and canning fruits, vegetables, and jam.  She also enjoyed sewing clothing for herself and her three daughters, including matching Bavarian dresses. She found time for family activities and their friends at the Lottanoise card club, as well as many other special friends.  For many years, she enjoyed making quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief through the St. Lorenz blanket making group.  She kept track of her completed tops and sewed over 1,000 of them over the last many years.

In the Fall of 2021, Elberta moved to Winter Village in Frankenmuth due to a diagnosis of dementia and had resided there until her death. The family found a dear friend and helpful caretaker in Gisela Murphy of Frankenmuth, who assisted the family with helping to care for our Mom. Appreciation is also given to the staff of A&D Home Health Care for their around-the-clock care of Mom, for the end-of-life staff of A&D Hospice, as well as the staff of Winter Village.

Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Elberta's family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, with burial at St. Lorenz cemetery following the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. Lorenz Media Ministry or the St. Lorenz Beautification Fund.
