Elroy
Schluckebier
Aug 5, 1944 — Jun 20, 2021
Elroy L. Schluckebier
Frankenmuth, MI
With his heart filled with the overflowing love of family and friends, Elroy Leonard Schluckebier, 76, of Frankenmuth joined his heavenly family on Father's Day, June 20, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Neuroendocrine Cancer. Elroy was born August 5, 1944 in Saginaw, to Ludwig and Helma (Geyer) Schluckebier. He grew up on the family Centennial Farm in Frankenmuth where he attended St. Lorenz School and Frankenmuth High School. His passion was the land and watching crops grow which prompted him to take over the farming operation when he was 13.
In 1978 his sister-in-law introduced him to Jean (Meinecke) Snow, a young widow teaching in Birch Run, and with the blessing of her daughter, Michelle, they married on August 7, 1982. In addition to farming, Elroy loved hunting deer and turkeys in neighboring woods, charter fishing with family and friends, bowling at the Candlelite Bowl with his Star of the West teammates, and playing euchre with anyone who knew how. Making furniture using oak from his father-in-law's woods was a favorite winter hobby. He was honored to use his talent making the communion table and other items at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Bridgeport.
He and Jean traveled the world with their special travel buddies, Larry and Char Hecht, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Mexico, South America, the Caribbean, and many places around the United States. His favorite adventures were fishing Halibut in Alaska, visiting the Matterhorn in Switzerland, and climbing Machu Pichu in Peru. Most people will remember him as a quiet, gentle, honest person but his three children will remember him as the dad they could always depend on to fix, build, design, advise, and guide them with any problem they might have.
In addition to Jean, his loving wife of nearly 39 years, his memory will be cherished by his children and their spouses: Michelle and Martin Wekerle; Sandra and Kyle Bader, and Michael Schluckebier and fiancé Kelcy Bonham, and his grandchildren: Henry and Nikolas Wekerle, Cassidy, Caylie, and Colton Bader. He is also survived by his siblings Arlen (Vicky) Schluckebier, Rockford, IL; Larry (Debbie) Schluckebier, Frankenmuth; Dennis (Karen) Schluckebier, Midland, MI; his brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Barb Meinecke, Saginaw; Ken and Leigh Ann Meinecke, Toledo, OH; Ken Curtis and Carol Schluckebier, Frankenmuth. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially long-time fishing and euchre friends Tom and Diane Manor, and the Farm Bureau Community Action Group, The Franken Steins. In addition to his parents and in-laws, Henry and Grace Meinecke, he was predeceased by his brother Bert Schluckebier and sister Janet Curtis of Frankenmuth.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth. Elroy's family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N.
