Eric Otto Daenzer, age 87, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home on August 27, 2026, with family by his side. Eric was born on April 12, 1939, in Frankenmuth, Michigan to the late Walter and Ottilie Daenzer. He married Marlene Hecht on June 29, 1963, and they shared 63 years together. She survives him.
Eric spent a lifetime as a hard-working dairy, beef and cash crop farmer. He was active in the Farm Bureau “Franken-Steins” community action group for 52 years. Eric was a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth.
Eric had a skill for carpentry. In his younger years, he worked for Harry Bierlein Builders. He built many pieces of furniture with his beloved walnut lumber. In retirement, Eric and Marlene enjoyed traveling, visiting nearly all 50 states and Europe. In the winter months, Eric enjoyed hours of cracking and harvesting English walnuts and hickory nuts from his own trees.
Besides his wife, he is also survived by three daughters Adele (Jim) Hetzner, Gloria (Tim) Hecht and Donna (Dean) Haubenstricker. He had 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Nathan) Rupp, Amy (Josh) Miller, Jeremy Hecht, Joshua (Lexie) Haubenstricker, Samuel Haubenstricker and Simon (Leah) Haubenstricker. He also had 3 great-grandchildren. Eric is also survived by his sister Marie Trinklein and brother-in-law Larry (Char) Hecht. Eric was preceded in death by a brother Norman (Nancy) Daenzer, sister Leona (Fred) Gugel and brother-in-law Fred Trinklein.
The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, September 1, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. The Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate. Eric’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Monday, August 31, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 1, at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Concordia Theological Seminary-Fort Wayne with checks payable to CTS-FW with memo “Adopt-A-Student.”
