Erna E. Janson

Erna Janson, our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully with family by her side Wednesday evening, January 8, 2020 at New Hope Bay, Bay City; age 100 years. Erna was determined to reach her 100th birthday because she knew it meant so much to her family, to celebrate that special occasion with her! She succeeded that goal in November, so as not to not disappoint us all. After that celebration, and because her first priority was always her family, she talked about being tired and prayed for Jesus to take her home to heaven to be with her husband and her granddaughter, Cindy Lee Houghtaling. Her prayers were answered.

Erna was born November 20, 1919 to Herman and Alma (Steltzriede) Bender. She married Albert Janson on July 3, 1938; he predeceased her on December 13, 1997. Erna was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church Frankentrost where she was very active. She volunteered at Wellspring Lutheran Home, was an avid euchre player, and Detroit Tiger fan. We will miss her, oh so much, but we know she is rejoicing and that comforts us all.  Erna's Lutheran faith was everything to her, as her family and any one of her countless friends would agree.

Surviving are: 2 daughters and 2 sons Karen (Thomas) Keinath of Silverthorne, CO, Sharon (William) McCoy of Bay City, MI, Robert (Cathie) Janson of The Villages, FL, Mark (Valarie) Janson of Frankenmuth, MI; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Besides her husband Albert and granddaughter Cindy Lee Houghtaling, Erna was predeceased by 3 sisters, Noreen Bender, Viola Krauseneck, and Arlene Roenicke.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Immanuel Lutheran Church, 8220 Holland Rd., Frankentrost, MI. Rev. Mark Loest and Rev. Dan Wojtowicz will officiate with burial in Blumfield Township Cemetery. Erna's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday 10:00 a.m. at church until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Care Time Hospice, or charity of donor's choice.
