Obituary

Eugene H. Bierlein

Frankenmuth, MI

Eugene H. Bierlein, devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 at the University of Michigan Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.

Eugene, lovingly known as Gene, was born August 9th, 1946, son to the late John and Irma (Grueber) Bierlein. He married Sharon Wirth on May 9th, 1970. They raised two children in their beautiful Frankenmuth home, which Gene built with his own two hands.

Gene was an active member of the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. He owned his own construction company for many years and was a master builder of fine furniture. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and spending time at their cabin in Harrison. Gene and his wife had many exciting adventures during their numerous trips together. He touched the lives of everyone around him, whether they were close friends or people he just met. Gene will be forever loved and missed by all.

Gene is survived by his wife, Sharon; beloved dog, Willy; two children, Paul (Evelyn) Bierlein of Lowell and Angela (Mark) Konenski of Bridgeport; five grandchildren, Delaney, Ethan, and Drew Bierlein; Austin and Nichole Konenski; siblings, Marcus, Sharon, and Shirley; brother-in-law, Fredrick Wirth, and sisters-in-law, Laurie DuBay (Jeff) of Vassar and Sandra Rummel of Lansing.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola St. with burial to follow in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Gene's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Missions.

Finally…some wise words from our beloved Gene. If you can make it to say your last goodbyes, "it's fine," if you can't make it, "it is what it is," and the answer to all of the world's tough questions is "whatever."
