Frank, Eugene J. “Smokey”

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at his home; age 84 years. Eugene “Smokey” was born on March 18, 1942 to the late Edwin and Edna Frank. He was married to Deanna Kaul on October 10, 1970; she survives him.

Smokey honorably served in the U.S Army National Guard. He was employed by Zeilinger Trucking for most of his career. He was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth Snowmobile Club, and Lopers Car Club. Smokey was a fan of Nascar and attended the race at MIS for many years. He enjoyed bowling and softball in his younger years.

Surviving besides his wife Deanna are: two daughters Melanie (Brian) Mattingly of Fayetteville, GA and Misti (Jim) Holzberger of Frankenmuth, MI; three grandchildren Christian, Anna, and John Mattingly; two brothers Robert (Nancy) Frank and Dennis Frank; sisters-in-law Ann Frank, Marlene Kaul, Carleen Kaul and Nancy Kaul; brother-in-law Dennis (Marcia) Kaul; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by brother Gerald Frank and brothers-in-law Dalton Kaul, Tim Kaul, and Karl Kaul, and sister-in-law Gladys Kaul.

Funeral Service will take place on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. The Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate. Eugene’s family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Church or School.
