Gerry was born in Kentucky to Howard and Bertha (Mading) Ivey and raised in both Kentucky and Texas. He joined the United States Navy and travelled the world. While on leave in 1958, he met Patricia Nichols to whom he was married (until her passing in 1995). After finishing his Naval duty, they moved to Jackson, Michigan, where they raised their three children. The family was blessed to become members of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth after moving there in 1969. After moving in 2000, Gerald also attended Zion Lutheran Church in Tawas City, MI.
Gerald was blessed to be married to Marilyn (Holmes) Ivey on July 4th, 2004. They have been enjoying Tawas City together since their marriage. Through this union, he has enjoyed five stepchildren and their spouses, eight step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren. Gerry began his life's work at Cooney Engineering in Jackson, then operated a branch for that company in Saginaw, and eventually operated Ivey Industries with his son Kipp in Saginaw, MI. Later he worked for Bruno Martin Co. and US Sheet Metal Co. He was a faithful worker who loved his job and cared for his employees. He was a member of SMACNA (Sheet Metal Air Conditioning National Association) and served as a board member for many years.
He will be remembered for his sacrificial love while raising his family, his faithful work, his caring concern for his employees, and his many kindnesses to strangers.
Due to circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 virus, the family will be holding a private outdoor graveside service at St. Lorenz Cemetery.
