Howard Walter Humphrey, age 78, of Frankenmuth, MI, formerly of Mio and Vassar, MI, passed away on May 2, 2026. He was born on October 31, 1947, in Mio, MI, to Robert and Marion Humphrey. After graduating from high school, Howard joined the US Navy and proudly served his country in Vietnam.

Howard married Linda VanWormer April 4, 1987 and they spent 37 years together. She predeceased him in 2024. Howard will be remembered as a kind man that loved people, loved to talk and had a story for everyone. Howard worked for many years as a barber and had barbershops in both Lupton and Vassar, MI.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Chris Hammel, San Diego, CA, step children Scott VanWormer and Shelley VanWormer, his pride and joy, granddaughter, Eden Linda VanWormer, all of Frankenmuth, MI, sister, Darleen (Bruce) Lockhart of Englewood, OH, sisters/brothers-in-law Kathy (Jon) Zehnder and Todd (Jeanne) Sanborn, both of Frankenmuth, MI and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Besides his wife and parents, Howard was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Humphrey and sister-in-law Jill Zehnder.

Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. Frankenmuth, Michigan. Cremation will take place with burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Howard’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Lorenz Lutheran School.
