Obituary

Janet McKendree

Frankenmuth, MI

Janet Lois (Hoff) McKendree, 87, passed away on April 28, 2020 at Wellspring Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth, Michigan from COVID-19 complications. Her memory is cherished by her husband of 65 years, Charles Gary McKendree; their 5 children, Birt (Polly) McKendree, Craig (Cindy) McKendree, Kathy McKendree (Bob Laski), Eric McKendree, and Karen McKendree (Tony Fields); 10 grandchildren, Jason (Tasha) McKendree, Ryan McKendree (Ruth Cassidy), Kyle (Lynn) McKendree, Justin (Ashley) McKendree, Kevin McKendree (Jie Jiao), Christopher (Nikki) Blake, Travis Greenburg, Alec Greenburg (Dominique Hayes-Carr), Miles Shannon, Mason Shannon; and 5 great-grandchildren. She also leaves 2 brothers, Richard Hoff and Curtis Hoff, plus many nieces, nephews, beloved family, and friends. In addition to her parents Willis and Ruth (Jaqua) Hoff, she joins her brother Gene Hoff and her two children Russell and Corine in her new heavenly home.

Janet was born and raised on a farm with her 3 brothers in Holgate, Ohio and often reminisced about what her life was like at that time. At the age of 21 she married her love Charles Gary McKendree. They began their adventure together in 1954 by settling in mid-Michigan and having 7 children. When not busy raising her family, Janet worked as an accountant at various organizations.

In her free time, she truly excelled at many hobbies. A few were gardening, baking (her favorites were cookies - oatmeal raisin and molasses), sewing, genealogy, singing, and spending time with family and friends. Janet also spent many hours creating photo albums/scrap books of her and her family's life in chronological order, a cherished legacy for her family to reminisce over for many years to come. When asked how she was doing, more likely than not her response would be "fine as frogs' hair!" with a wry smile.

The family sends their thanks to the staff at Wellspring Lutheran Home who cared for Janet with skilled compassion and courage.

Janet's family will gather to celebrate her life when the pandemic quarantine restrictions allow. A private funeral service will take place Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 11:30am at Cederberg Funeral Home in Frankenmuth, Michigan with Pastor Mike Knitz from Bethany Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association.
