John F. Voss

Frankenmuth, MI

John Voss joined his risen Savior on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the age of 84. He was born on October 13, 1939 to the late Rev. Walter C. and Amanda (Lange) Voss and was married to Dianne Palmreuter. She survives him.

John was baptized on November 4, 1939, and confirmed his faith on May 10, 1953. A graduate of Michigan Lutheran Seminary and Northwestern College, he earned his master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. He served honorably in the U.S Army for two years and was a teacher at Vassar Public Schools for 40 years, retiring in 2006. He was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth where he served as a Sunday School teacher for 32 years, School of Religion teacher for 42 years, choir director for 30 years, choir member for 25 years, Board of Christian Education for 36 years, and Church Council for 25 years as President, Treasurer, Elder and Christian Education Chairman. John also served on the Frankenmuth City Planning Commission for 25 years, 10 years as Chairman, and was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society for 38 years. He was an avid Ohio State football fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Surviving besides his wife, Dianne, are: one daughter, Esther Selves of Fairborn, OH; two grandsons, Micah (Andrea) Selves of Cincinnati, OH and Caleb Selves of Fairborn, OH; four great-grandchildren, Parker, Emily, Isaiah, and Avery Selves; brother David (Andrea) Voss of San Jose, CA; three sisters, Ruth Rauch of Milwaukee, WI, Elisabeth Wells of Oakdale, MN, and Rhoda (Bob) Holbrook of Vestavia Hills, AL; brothers-in-law Kenneth (Martha) Palmreuter of Rapid City, SD, Eugene (Nancy) Palmreuter of Vassar, MI, and Gary (Marsha) Palmreuter of Glen Ellyn, IL; sisters-in-law Marajean Block of Lambertville, MI and Diane Voss of Arden Hills, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers Rev. Carl Voss and his wife Margaret, and Paul Voss; brothers-in-law Howard Rauch, Kenneth Wells, and Richard A. Block; and son-in-law Dale Selves.

Funeral service will take place Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1200 E. Genesee St. Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Patrick Ernst will officiate with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. John's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
