God welcomed Kathy home on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Covenant Glen of Frankenmuth; age 76 years. Kathleen Barbara Schluckbier was born on March 14, 1944 in Saginaw, MI to the late Clarence and Vera Schluckbier. She graduated from Vassar High School with honors. She was married to Darrell Bierlein who predeceased her February 18 th , 2008. She was later married to Donald Yancer; he predeceased her on August 20 th , 2012. Kathy was the first CEO of Frankenmuth Credit Union for over 30 years and earned a distinguished fellowship from the Institute of Certified Credit Union Executives. She was a positive leader with an open-door policy. One would say she had a generous, giving heart, who treated everyone like family. There is a FCU annual scholarship awarded to a graduating student in her name at Vassar High School. Kathy served for more than 20 years on the original Credit Union Marketing Alliance as well as many years on the Frankenmuth Beautification Committee. She was also a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and a St. Lorenz MOPS caregiver. Kathy was an avid sports fan, cheering for MSU, the Lions, and the Tigers. For 25 years, she bowled for Satow Drugs at state and national tournaments.
Kathy is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Stephen) Strickert of Frankenmuth, MI and her son Jim (Lisa) Bierlein of Essexville, MI; 4 grandchildren Christina (Luke) Suminski, Michelle (Jake) Lee, Amanda (Sean Gray) Himmel, and Evan Bierlein; 3 great-grandchildren Carson Strickert, Madelina Suminski, and Henry Lee; her sister Carol Bergdolt and her brother Gerald (Nancy) Schluckbier; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will take place at a later date. Kathy's family would like to thank St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, the staff at Covenant Glen, and the staff at Wellspring Hospice for all their loving care. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted to Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth.
