Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Konrad John Heuvers, 80, passed away at his home in Frankenmuth on November 12, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Konrad was born in Stockton, CA on March 15, 1940, the son of the late Conrad and Kathyrn Heuvers. As a child he was very active in Boys Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Santa Cruz High school and went on to receive a bachelor's and master's degree in Mathematics from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Ohio State.
While attending Ohio State, he met Barbara Ann Michna and the two married on August 19, 1967 in Columbus, OH. In 1969, Konrad accepted a position as a Mathematics Professor at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI. He and Barbara lived in Laurium, MI until retiring from Michigan Tech in 2007 and then moved to Frankenmuth in 2007.
Konrad was a world-renowned mathematician who published over 25 books and papers. He was also well-versed in German and translated a German book to English (Lost in the Fjord, by Jon Sveinsson).
Konrad enjoyed folk dancing and spent many Fridays dancing at Fischer Platz in Frankenmuth. He also enjoyed singing with the Gemütlichkeit club.
Konrad is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; two children Joseph (Eunice) Heuvers of Wixom, MI; Kristina Heuvers (Erik Silvassy) of Troy, MI; grandchildren Nicholas, Annabelle, and Mei Lin Heuvers and granddog Andy.
Visitation will be at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church (2333 Elms Rd, Flushing, MI) from 9:00am to 11:00am on Tuesday, November 17 and conclude with a short Panachida Service. The Funeral Divine Liturgy will be at 11:00am. No Funeral Luncheon is planned nor is a Panachida Service planned the previous evening due to the COVID-19 Crisis.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church in Flushing, MI (www.stmichaelbyz.com); the Holy Transfiguration Skete in Eagle Harbor, MI (www.societystjohn.com/contributions); or the Michigan chapter of Boy Scouts of America ( www.michiganscouting.org/donate-friends-of-scouting ).
