Leona Helen Deuring Reinert fell asleep in Jesus' arms with family by her side on Wednesday January 29, 2020. Leona was born on December 16, 1929 to the late Erwin and Cecilia (Sharrer) Haubenstricker. She was baptized at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church with Bertha Daenzer, Milda Rittmueller, and John Locher as godparents. Leona married Richard Deuring on August 9, 1952. He predeceased her on April 16, 1989. She married Harvey Reinert on June 22, 1991, he predeceased her on June 20, 2011.
Leona worked at the Ben Franklin-IGA for 22 years, was a former hot lunch cook and seamstress for Bronner's Christmas Wonderland. Leona was a seamstress at heart. Sewing and designing the Bavarian Princesses' dresses for 23 years. Leona volunteered at Bethesda and was a familiar face at the Frankenmuth Farmer's Market. She was a noted cookie baker, famous for her springerle and lebkuchen. She was a proud member of the Frankenmuth American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving Leona are: 1 son and 2 daughters, Gene (Jane) Deuring, Diane (Fred) Rogner both of Frankenmuth, MI, Dawn (William) Hoffman and stepson Duane Reinert of Birch Run, MI;9 grandchildren, Rachel (Kirk Daenzer) Deuring, Mandy Deuring, Nicholas (Amanda) Deuring, Tim (Jeanna) Rogner, Andy and Stephanie Rogner, Jacob (Corinne) Hoffman, Andrea (Andrew) McGinnis and Landon Reinert; 12 great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and countless friends.
Besides her husbands Richard and Harvey, Leona was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law Ivan and Margaret Haubenstricker.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark D. Brandt will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Leona's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the prayer service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Media Ministry, Ascension Hospice or Charity of Donor's Choice.
