Lois Emily Metzger, of Frankenmuth, Michigan, and Naples, Florida, passed away on December 14, 2021. Family & friends will miss her infectious laugh, love of life, spiritual words of wisdom and her delicious baked goods. She always had a kind word to say and lived her life as a testimony to God's goodness and grace as a witness to the lives she touched.
Lois was born on August 4, 1933 in Frankenmuth, MI to the late Otto & Linda (Zehnder) Trinklein, and was baptized at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. She was married to John F. Metzger on October 24, 1953, who predeceased her on June 9, 2006. She was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Naples, FL. Lois served in many community groups, St. Lorenz Missionary Guild, Grace Missionary Guild, Library Volunteer, and was a Hospice Volunteer.
She attended St. Lorenz Lutheran School and was confirmed on March 30, 1947. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in June 1951 and was the Co-Editor of the AHHS Yearbook. She continued her education and attended Valparaiso University and Michigan State University where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
Surviving are her children: Mary Kay Metzger (Steve Abbett) of Genoa, NV; Linda Jane (Metzger) Woodle, Frankenmuth, MI; John Otto Metzger (Debi) of Gilbert, AZ & Grand Blanc, MI; Michael James Metzger (Elisa) of Greenwich, CT; grandchildren: Ryan Metzger Woodle, Joshua Metzger Woodle, Benjamin Metzger Woodle (Alexandra Grace), Chad Hill, Chris Hill (Marikay); Rachel Dougherty Metzger, Nicole Dougherty Metzger, Michele Dougherty Metzger; great grandchildren: James Woodle, Baby Boy Woodle, Keaton Hill, Lilah Hill, Emmitt Hill, Oliver Hill, and Callie Hill.
Lois is survived by her two sisters: Jean (Trinklein) Hull, Ermie (Trinklein) Hermann; in-laws: Adele (Trinklein) Zehnder, Claudia (Trinklein) Engman, June (Metzger) Lundvall, Norma Metzger (Raynold) Schmick; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased family members include her sister, Ruth (Trinklein) Meyer Thiel and brothers John Peter Trinklein and Jack Leonard Trinklein.
The family wishes to thank Keith Nagy and Karen Butler who have gone above and beyond to provide support in her home. In addition, thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the University of Michigan, Covenant Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, Wellspring Services, Dr. I Rajouhl and so many others that took the time to pray for her, visit, send cards, make calls and offer well wishes.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 17, 2021, from 2-8 pm at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St., Frankenmuth, MI 48734. Funeral service will take place Saturday December 18, 2021 at 11 am at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth, MI. Rev. Brad Hubbard will officiate, with a burial in St. Lorenz Cemetery, following the service. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Lorenz Media Ministry; St. Lorenz CrossRoads Counseling Ministries; Frankenmuth City Beautification, or any charity of your choice. Cards of sympathy may be mailed to the family at PO Box 58, Frankenmuth, MI 48734.
