Obituary

Loretta G. Walkowiak

Bridgeport, MI formerly of Bay City and Frankenmuth

Passed away Friday, November 12, 2021, at Bavarian Comfort Care; age 104 years. Loretta Baranowski was born on October 2, 1917 in Bay City, MI to the late Joseph and Catherine Baranowski. She was married to Arthur M. Walkowiak on June 24, 1944 in Bay City, MI. He predeceased her on October 28, 1973.

Loretta enjoyed reading, bowling and crocheting, but she especially loved spending time with her family. Loretta was born into a close-knit family and had many close friends. Despite living through the Great Depression and WWII, they always found time to gather and celebrate life. She never wavered in her faith and was always eager to help with anything needed, especially for her grandchildren. She was always a snappy dresser. We enjoyed her cooking, especially her golumpki (pigs in a blanket), her homemade meatballs and her ability to find the best paczkis for Lent. Diligently and affectionally, she maintained correspondence with many friends and extended family members.

Surviving are: 2 daughters Kathleen (Michael) Cole of Stockholm, WI and Patricia (Charles) Bourdon of Lambertville, MI formerly of Frankenmuth; 5 grandchildren Michael Kernstock, John Kernstock, William (Julie) Bourdon, Brian (Robin) Bourdon, and Rachel (John) McCormick; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband Loretta was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters John (Angeline) Baranowski, Edwin (Helen) Baranowski, Ted (Reggie) Baranowski, Eugene (Evelyn) Baranowski, Delphine (Joseph) Pietrzak and Bernice (Joseph) Siecinski; and 20 brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 E. Tuscola Rd., Frankenmuth, Michigan. Fr. Patrick Jankowiak will officiate with burial in St. Stans Cemetery, Bay City, MI. Loretta's family will receive visitors at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of donor's choice. Loretta's family wishes to thank Bavarian Comfort Memory Care and Absolute Hospice for their compassionate care.
