Lorraine M. Smith
Frankenmuth, MI
Lorraine Marie Smith was called to her heavenly home on August 3, 2021 at Wellspring Lutheran Services in Frankenmuth, MI., after a miraculous nine-year battle with advanced ovarian cancer. Lorraine was born on November 8, 1953 to Arthur and Erna (Hartwig) Keller in Bridgman, MI. She was the youngest of four children. While growing up, she worked in the fields of her family's fruit and vegetable farm (Keller's Fruit & Produce) in southwest Michigan, which also trucked their fresh produce to the Chicago market on a daily basis. Lorraine was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman and attended Immanuel grade school where her mother was the school cook for 25 years preparing hot lunches for 130 children. Lorraine attended Bridgman High School and after graduation, worked at various manufacturing facilities in Michigan and Florida before moving to Frankenmuth where she became a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. She loved to spend time with her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She enjoyed mowing lawns and tending to gardens at various properties in Frankenmuth and Birch Run. She was also an accomplished seamstress.
Surviving are siblings - Glenn Keller of Bridgman, MI; Donald (Judy Zehnder) Keller of Frankenmuth, MI; Joyce (Wilson) Singer of St. Joseph, MI; nieces & nephews - Dawn (George) Baker of Haslett, MI; Christine (Paul) Czech of Cary, NC; Michael (Kimberly) Zehnder of Frankenmuth, MI; Martha (John) Kaczynski of Frankenmuth, MI; William Keller of Sedona, AZ; Jonathan Singer of Three Rivers, MI; Samantha (Sloan) Barbour of New York City, NY and 8 great-nieces & great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, her husband Danny Smith predeceased her.
A graveside service will take place later this year at Greenwood Cemetery in Bridgman, MI.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church or Hospice for Hope.
