Obituary

Louie John Weiss

Frankenmuth, MI

Louie J. Weiss went home to be with his Lord and Savior September 18, 2024 at Bavarian Comfort Care; age 96 years. Louie was born on July 19, 1928 in Frankenmuth, MI to the late Edwin and Hedwig (Trinklein) Weiss. He married Kathleen Scharrer on August 22, 1953; she predeceased him on August 18, 2022.

Louie was a life-long member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church where he served on various boards and committees and was a member of the Male Choir for over 60 years.

Louie graduated from Arthur Hill High School, Michigan State College (bachelor's degree) and Michigan State University (master's degree). He was a life-long educator retiring from Frankenmuth High School in 1991. He taught, was the assistant principal, and implemented the co-op training program during his career.

He and Kathleen were very hospitable and enjoyed operating a bed and breakfast for 30 years.

Other community activities Louie was involved with included membership in the Lions Club, Frankenmuth Historical Association, and the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce.

Louie loved fishing, gardening, traveling, genealogy documentation, and authoring his memoirs. He also was an avid card player of euchre, pinochle, and bridge.

His greatest legacy is his strong Christian faith and his dedication in showing how great it is to live with Jesus. His family has had a wonderful role model.

Surviving are three daughters Marcia (Dave) Burk, Mary Weiss, and Margie (Paul) Bergman; six grandchildren Derek (Heidi) Burk, Chelsea (Steve) Spadafore, Tyler (Lindsey) Weiss, Spencer (Jill) Weiss, Kyle Bergman, and Alec Bergman; six great grandchildren Cooper and Ella Weiss, Henry, Rosie, and John Burk, and Luca Spadafore; brother-in-law Arnold Scharrer; sisters-in-law GloryAnn Scharrer and Doris (Bob) Schlaefke, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his loving wife, Kathleen, Louie was preceded in death by his sister Esther Fager, brothers Wallace Weiss and Frederick Weiss.

Louie's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of Heart to Heart Hospice, and Bavarian Comfort Care for their compassionate care for their dad.
