Obituary

Michael D. Van Hine

Frankenmuth, MI

Michael David Van Hine passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2022.

Mike was born on April 18, 1962 in Detroit, MI to David and Karen Van Hine. After moving to Frankenmuth at the age of 12, he graduated high school in 1980 and attended MSU graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics class of 1985. Beginning at the Saginaw News in 1986, he climbed the ladder of news and eventually became the information systems manager for Advanced Central Services of Michigan before retiring in December 2019 after 34 years.

He married the love of his life Sharon Ann Baker on October 22, 1988. She survives him.

Also surviving are children Brittany Morrison (Brandon), Alexa, Conner, Carter, grandson Dominick and sister Susan Smolek (Tony).

Mike enjoyed many pastimes including camping, mowing his lawn to Christmas music, going to the beach, walking his beloved huskies Luna & Diesel, playing video games with his boys, and loved taking family trips to Cedar Point. His fondest memories were cookouts with his family on any occasion and "boy" trips with his sons.

He was diagnosed with stage IV renal carcinoma in 2014 and doctors estimated he had two years remaining. His unwavering positivity, upbeat attitude, and his New Balance "dad" shoes helped him fight for over 7 years.

Liked by all who met him and loved by all who knew him, to say he will be missed is an understatement.

A celebration of life is planned for Friday, March 18 th at 5:00 pm in Frankenmuth at Fischer Hall.

According to Mike's wishes, cremation has taken place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Michigan Heroes Museum, The Humane Society of Saginaw County, Inc., or Kidney Cancer Association.
