The Catholic faith was at the core of Mike's life, and he always sought out the Traditional Latin Mass and sacraments.  He had a wonderfully witty sense of humor, loved to tell stories, and make people laugh.  Mike served in the United States Army from 1960-63 and was stationed in Korea and Georgia, Kentucky & Texas.  He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit in 1970.  He worked for several years in advertising for General Motors and eventually made a career as a sales manager with General Electric Large Lamp Division.  He was a gifted artist especially in oil painting, pastels, and leathercraft.  He enjoyed hunting, cooking, and German Shepherd dogs.  Mike was an active member in the local VFW and American Legion chapters.

In 1966, Mike married Virginia Kaye (Ghesquiere) and they had five children. They celebrated 48 years of marriage before her death in 2014. Mike was also preceded in death by their son, Michael Bernard Lutz.
