The Legend of Millie
She was born in Detroit, Michigan at Doctors Hospital on August 4, 1926, to Joseph and Casmira Motyka. Her parents, prior to their immigration to the United States, were freedom fighters in their native Poland. It is with that spirit and love of freedom that Mildred approached life. She encouraged her children and her husband, Edgar to embrace life and to serve others by being honest, independent and God Loving. In her early years she lived in Detroit with her parents and 8 siblings, moving to a 32-acre farm East of Warren. Mildred would talk about growing carrots, potatoes, corn and raising chickens. After her mother passed away in 1944, her father and brother would work on cars, sometimes in the living room, she would explain. Mildred graduated from Warren High School in 1944. She met Edgar in 1946 and they were married at St Anne's Catholic Church on June 28 th , 1947.
In the early 1950's, Mildred and Edgar and their small family moved to Clawson, but soon moved back to Warren where they raised their family. Mildred, while raising her 5 children, worked for the Chevrolet Dealer located in Warren as a bookkeeper. Mildred followed her dream and became a licensed real estate agent in 1985 until she retired in 1992. As Mildred and Edgar became empty nesters, they built, as she often described it, their dream home in the Canadian Lakes. After only a few years and Edgar's failing health, they decided to move to North Branch to be near family. Mildred enjoyed many friends in North Branch playing cards and traveling to minor and professional league baseball and other church sponsored events including bus trips to various Michigan casinos. Mildred enjoyed bowling and golf and played in several leagues into her 90's Mildred loved to travel, experiencing Hawaii, Rome, The Vatican, and also several European regions and the Holy Lands.
As time passed on, Mildred decided to move into Senior Assisted Living at Winter Village in Frankenmuth Michigan with her dog Savanah. Her son Gregory and his wife Lori were mom's guardians and loving caretakers during the years after Edgar passed away. They continued to watch over Mom through her final moments. Mom would often brag about how her son Gregory and Lori would watch over her. Mildred loved her "Senior Life" in Frankenmuth. She took part in every activity available to her. Finally, Mom loved her Faith, praying every day and ending her night "saying" her Rosary.
Mom will be deeply missed.
