Obituary

Patricia N. Curtis-Conlon

Traverse City, MI -formerly of Detroit, MI

Patricia Noreen Curtis-Conlon passed away peacefully on November 13 th 2022 at Covenant Glen of Frankenmuth, MI.

"Pat" was born to Stephen and Anna Louise "Gawley" O'Rourke on February 23rd, 1932, in Detroit, MI. She attended St. Leo's in Detroit. On her first day of 3 rd grade, she mistakenly jay-walked across Grand River Ave and was promptly reprimanded by one of the student crossing guards. In tears and awaiting a trip to the principal's office on her first day at a new school, another crossing guard (a 5 th grader) came to her rescue. He told that if she promised never to walk outside the crosswalk again, he would let her go with a warning. Some years later in high school, this crossing guard would ask Patsy out on a date and later become her husband.

Patricia Noreen was united in marriage with Stephen Timothy Curtis on October 14 th , 1950, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, just a half block away from their first encounter in grade school. Patricia was a devoted mother to her 7 children, Stephen (Mary) Curtis of Traverse City, Patrick (Patti) Curtis of Caro, Rosemary Reyes of Frankenmuth, Michael Curtis of Saginaw, Joseph Curtis of Traverse City, Jeanne Curtis of Grand Rapids and Matthew (Abby) Curtis of Frankenmuth, MI. In addition, she was "Grandma Curtis" to 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She made each one feel special and always remembered their birthdays with a card and of course a check.

She is also survived by sister in-law and brother in-law Gene and Patricia Dutzy of Lake Orion, MI and stepdaughter Cynthia Conlon of Traverse City.

A few years after Steve's death at the age of 63, Pat married Jim Conlon of Traverse City. They enjoyed great years traveling and enjoyed socializing with friends at the Elks Club in Traverse City. Jim preceded her death in 2012.

While Wife, Mom and Grandma were her important vocations, she also was active in the Democratic Party of Grand Traverse County and served as a liaison in the office of Congressman Bart Stupak.

With the youngest of her kids in school, she took a job at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. She enjoyed her job and even took classes herself, graduating with a degree in 1990.

Pat was proud of her Irish heritage and was honored in 1986 when she was chosen the Saint Patrick's Day Queen. She enjoyed the yearly festivities and meeting every year with the other "Irish Queens" of Traverse City to select the next Queen.

This is not goodbye to our Mom, but a heartfelt "until we see you again…"

"May the sunshine warm upon your face. May the rains fall softly upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand."

We wish to thank the staff of Covenant Glen of Frankenmuth and American Home Health Care and Hospice for their care of our Mom.
