Phyllis Avery

Birch Run, MI

Phyllis Avery of Birch Run, MI passed away March 9, 2024 at the age of 87. Phyllis was born on November 29, 1936 in Frankenmuth to the late Arno L. and Elsie A. (Daenzer) Fischer. She was a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.

Phyllis attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary of Saginaw, MI; class of 1955. On November 24, 1956, she married Robert C. Avery. He predeceased her on March 30, 2017. She worked at the Bavarian Haus Motel. Phyllis enjoyed her family, playing cards, gardening, and nature.

Surviving are three daughters; Roxanne (Mike) Bierlein, Bonnie (John) O'Connell, and Susan Avery; seven grandchildren; Heidi Bierlein, Adam (Sheila) Bierlein, Andy (Cassie) O'Connell, Kaitlin O'Connell, Jeff (Alicia) Raymond, Crystal (Adam) McQueen, and Lillie (Christian) Fry; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; a brother Ken (Nancy) Fischer; sisters Rhea (Jim) Bartels and Lori Payne, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice (Victor) Childers and brother-in-law Gary Payne, sisters-in-law Lillie (Clinton) Stafford and Cleo Avery.

In her final days her family thanks the nurses and staff at Vassar Comfort Care and Harmony at Home Hospice Care.

Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate. Phyllis' family will receive visitors at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. Lorenz Student Aid Fund or Lutheran Braille Workers.
