Raymond George Bergdolt

Passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in Elgin, IL; age 86 years. Raymond was born September 27, 1931 in Vassar, MI to Michael and Florence (Schiefer) Bergdolt. Raymond was baptized at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church on October 11, 1931. He married Lois Keinath on July 25, 1954. Raymond served as a Lutheran school teacher at Zion in Woodburn, IN from 1954-1959. He continued his service to the Lord and His Church as teacher and principal at St. Peter of Riley Township in St. John's, MI from 1959 to 1981. After returning home to Frankenmuth, Raymond began working for the Tiny Zehnder family eventually working at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. While working there he wrote the family history for each of the Lodge rooms and served alongside Tiny Zehnder in creating the Farm Fest at Tiny's Farm. For many years, Raymond led devotions at the Lutheran Home and was the liturgist for the German services at St. Lorenz.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; his daughter, Ramona and her husband, Phillip Baerwolf. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Devan and her husband Sean McCarroll; his grandson. James and his wife, Holly Johnson and his great grandchildren, Harrison and Anderson McCarroll; two brothers, Norm (Bonnie) Bergdolt of Frankenmuth, Wilmar (Joan) Bergdolt of Arizona; three sisters, Dorothy Weber of Vassar, MI, Lenore Poellet of Frankenmuth, MI, Ruth Bergdolt of Richville, MI; four sisters-in-law, Elaine Maurer of Vassar, MI, Carol Bergdolt of Frankenmuth, MI, Ruth Keinath of Vassar, MI and Carol Riddle of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and his two daughters, Katherine and Mary; two sisters; Erna Hutchinson and Lorna Weiss; two brothers, Arnold Maurer and Paul Bergdolt; and six brothers-in-law; Al Weber, William Hutchinson, Elmer Weiss, Clint Poellet, Waldemar Keinath and Guy Riddle.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Raymond's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Mission Fund and the Comfort Dog Ministry of Immanuel Lutheran Church of East Dundee.
