Upon his passing, Raymond was draped with the American flag. The Covenant Hospital staff lined the hall for a Code Honor and stood silent as the Chaplain spoke a prayer. The body was rolled down the hallway while Taps were being played.
Raymond enlisted in the US Marine Corp in 1944 and fought on Iwo Jima with the third Marine division. He was sent to China and posted to the Swiss Embassy stationed in the American delegation. After seeing duty in Beijing and Tensing, China he was sent home at the end of the war in 1946. He was honored to travel to Washington DC, September 13, 2017 on a Mid-Michigan Honor Flight. He is a World War ll hero!
Ray was the owner of the Trinklein Dairy operated as the Cream Line Dairy in the 1950s, later became associated with McDonald Dairy in 1963, then the dairy business became a drive-in and later the Edelweiss Restaurant.
Ray was a lifelong member of Saint Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth, a member of the Senior Mixed Choir and the Lutheran Laymen League. Raymond was a charter member of the Frankenmuth Lions Club, a member of the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce and past commander of the American Legion Post #150.
Our Dad enjoyed music, singing and playing his accordion & harmonica. He thanked God daily for his many blessings and studied the Bible, reading it from cover to cover at least 7 times. In his later years he used a large magnifier for his daily readings. His greatest joy was his Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the millennium year 2000 with his cousin Wally Weiss. Playing euchre, gardening and having visits from his family, neighbors and friends were his favorite pleasures. He was a true and loyal friend and a real gentleman loved by all. He touched so many lives by giving teenagers their first wage earning job. We have all been blessed by having him in our lives. Raymond now rests in peace in his Heavenly Home and will be dearly missed.
