Went home to the Lord Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital; age 80 years. Rita Mortimore was born on February 20, 1941 in Saginaw, MI to the late Byron and Dorothy Mortimore. She was married to Gerald Wazny on December 31, 1957 in Saginaw MI, he survives her.
While raising her family Rita also volunteered for over 1400 hours at Covenant Medical Center. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales (formerly St. Christopher's) Catholic Church and a member of its Altar Society. Rita loved to garden and also enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, and knitting. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving besides her husband Jerry of 63 years are children; Cindy Warner of Corunna, MI, Gerald Jr. (Janice) Wazny of Beaverton, MI, Joyce (Gerald) Bremer of Corunna, MI, Annette (Paul) Ott of Pinconning, MI, and Donna (Steve) Larson of Birch Run, MI; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren with one expected in July; sisters Byra (Duane) Fritzler and Dawn Wolfgram; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenny (Kay) Wazny, Delphine Truckel, and Shirley Knowlton; many nieces and nephews; and close friends George (Sandy) Galsterer and family, and Pat Lapinsky.
Rita was preceded in death by her grandson Kyle Wazny; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Larry Wolfgram, Clarence (Marcia) Wazny, Louise (Robert) Pohlman, Lloyd Truckel, and Martin Knowlton.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales, 3945 Williamson Rd, Saginaw, MI 48601. Father John Mancini will officiate with entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Rita's family will receive visitors at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Francis de Sales or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
