Robert J. Schauman

Frankenmuth, MI formerly of Bridgeport, MI

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday March 13, 2020 at his home; age  97 years. Robert Schauman was born on April 25, 1922 in Saginaw, MI to the late August and Stella Mae (Newberry) Schauman.   He was married to Pearlena "Peany" Muter; she predeceased him in 1972. He was later married to Clara Smith; she predeceased him in 2007. Robert worked and retired from General Motors Corporation, Central Foundry Division and was co-founder of the Bridgeport Development Company. He also served as a member of the Bridgeport Community School District School Board and the Bridgeport Charter Township Planning Commission. Robert was a charter member of Bridgeport Community Church. He enjoyed carpentry work and home building and remodeling projects. He was an advocate for Habitat for Humanity, a devoted Detroit Tiger fan, and a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving are: 3 daughters Shirley Church of Port St. Lucie, FL, Nancy Findlay of Frankenmuth, MI, and Sandra Schauman of Port St. Lucie, FL, 1 son James Schauman of Frankenmuth, MI; 3 step daughters Linda (Jerry) Walker of Minnertrista, MN, Rachel (Craig) Anderson of Gaylord, MI, and Sandy (Jay) Rae of Port St. Lucie, FL, 1 step son Herb (Shiela) Vasold of Saginaw, MI; 6 granddaughters Michaela Lopez, Joni Lopez, Kelly (Ryan) Piesko, Lyndee (Gabe) Rodriguez, Kelsey (John) Moss, and Jennifer (Greg) Cimino, 3 grandsons Chad Bickel, Matthew (Kelly) Schauman, Jeff Hill and Chuck (Kelsey) Findlay; 6 great-granddaughters Allanah Draper, Chelsy (Matthew) Shelson, Katelyn Piesko, Alyssa Rodriguez, Julia Rodriguez, and Alexandra Moss, 3 great-grandsons Chandler Bickel, Caden Piesko, Gabriel Rodriguez and Joseph James Moss; 2 great-great-granddaughters Athena Silwowsky and Peyton Shelson, 1 great-great-grandson Jaxon Shelson.

Besides his wives Peany and Clara, Robert was preceded in death by 2 brothers August Schauman and Raymond Schauman.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at Bridgeport Community Church, 3821 State St, Bridgeport, MI 48722. Reverend Ron Sinclair will officiate. Robert's family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Bridgeport Community Church.
