Rose
List
Aug 2, 1921 — May 17, 2021
Rose Mariann List
Maricopa, AZ formerly of Frankenmuth, MI
Rose went to be with her Savior on May 17th, 2021 at the age of 99. She was surrounded by Eunice, Cris and Nathan Holmes in AZ as they had been lovingly caring for her in their home. She was born August 2, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois to Albert and Eleanora Sachtleben and had three siblings, Carl (Helen) Sachtleben, Esther (Al) Mandle and Paula (Bill) von Kampen. Her immediate family members have predeceased her as well as her in-laws, Lorenz and Alma List and brothers-in-law Ed, Fred, Lorenz and Kurt. She is survived by Bill von Kampen and many nieces and nephews.
She felt honored to be in the first class that included female students to graduate from Concordia Lutheran Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. Rose was introduced to Hilbert List while he was in the Navy stationed in Chicago. They were married on January 26, 1946 and lived their 59 years of married life in Frankenmuth. Hilb went to his eternal home on December 28, 2005. Together they raised five children, Lois (Rob) Riley, Stephen (Kay) List, Paul (Wendy) List, Eunice (Cris) Holmes and Ruthie (Dean) Elbers. She enjoyed special relationships with her grandchildren: Debbie, Katy, Kendra, Matt, Krista, David, Paula and Nathan and great grandchildren: Emily, Matthew, Jonathan, Tyler, Colten, Andrew, Adysen and Eliana. Marie Agnes Gay, a French exchange student, remained a dear family friend. Getting the family together to celebrate birthdays, progressive dinners, golf scrambles or Bavarian festival parades is what Rose and Hilb cherished most.
Music was her passion--playing piano and organ throughout her lifetime, teaching piano, singing in the Treble Choir and directing the Male Choir at St. Lorenz. "Beautiful Savior" was among her favorite choral hymns. Rose really enjoyed the preparation with fellow musicians for worship services or concerts. She helped organize the Bavarian Singers, a group of fun-loving ladies who enjoyed performing tunes from musicals at local events. She was active for years in LWML and the board of the Saginaw Community Concerts. Rose taught for over 25 years including elementary grades at St. Lorenz and music for the Frankenmuth Public Schools. After her retirement she dabbled in oil painting, did some traveling, hosted a women's bible study group in her home and led hymn sings with her family at Ind. Village.
One of her favorite verses was Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord, "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Her prayer was that people in her life would come to faith in Jesus and receive the hope of salvation that He provides.
