Russell E. VanPatten

Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Covenant Cooper Medical Center; age 86 years. Russ was born on June 15, 1940 in Lichfield, MI to the late John and Iva VanPatten. He was married to Sharon Riess on April 12, 1968; she survives him. Russ was employed by General Motors as an engineer until 1995. He enjoyed hunting in Rose City, MI at his family’s property. Russ also enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers and college football.

Surviving besides his wife Sharon are 4 children Sandy VanPatten of Calumet, MI, Darren (Laura) VanPatten of Tallahassee, FL, Brian (Kate) VanPatten of Clio, MI, and Stacy (Rob) Kelly of Ypsilanti, MI; 3 grandchildren Nicki, Lisa, and Nathan; 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Russ was preceded in death by 2 brothers John D. VanPatten and Kenneth VanPatten, and 1 sister Dallyce Gross.

A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Frankenmuth Conservation Club.
