Ruth, the youngest of ten children of the late Rev. Albert C. and Margaret (Wuerflein) Klammer died Wednesday, April 15, at Covenant Glen of Frankenmuth at the age of 93 years. Ruth was born in Saginaw, Michigan on October 21, 1932. She is a graduate of Arthur Hill High School and attended nurse's training at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ruth married Alan H. Knoll on September 15, 1952, in Frankenmuth. She accompanied Alan to the U.S. Navy base at Yokosuka, Japan, where he served during the Korean War and where their first two children (twins) were born. They raised a total of six children in Pennsylvania, and later lived in upstate New York and Indiana, before they retired back to Frankenmuth.
Ruth was an accomplished artist. After her children were grown, she attended Indiana University Purdue at Fort Wayne, earning an associate's degree in Commercial Art. She worked primarily in watercolor, pen and ink, and mixed media. She enjoyed making original hand painted note cards for many of her friends. Ruth was past president of the Saginaw Artist Guild and was a founding member of the Saginaw Area Watermedia Artists and the Frankenmuth Area Fine Arts Council.
Besides her parents and nine siblings, Ruth was predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years, and a son, Stephen. Ruth is survived by her children Deborah (Martin) Schroeder of Union, MO; David Knoll of Hopkins, MN, Mark (Marion) Knoll of Gardner, MA; Rebecca (Peter) Carr of Poolesville, MD; and Andrew Knoll of Daytona Beach, FL; daughter-in-law Linda Knoll of West Chester, PA; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Ruth's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Friday, April 24th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Ruth will be buried alongside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frankenmuth Historical Association or St. Lorenz Church.
