Sally M. Schmelzer of Frankenmuth passed away Wednesday morning, January 31, at Medilodge of Frankenmuth after a short stay. She was born on October 18, 1932, in Saginaw to Lillie and Harry Greer. She graduated from Saginaw's Arthur Hill High School in 1950. Immediately after high school, she started working for Michigan Bell Telephone. On April 19, 1958, Sally married Philip L. Schmelzer at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Bridgeport. He survives her.
Sally lived for her family and they meant everything to her. She was very proud of her kids and grandchildren and would happily tell you about their accomplishments. She was also an active blood donor and supporter of the American Red Cross.
Surviving Sally, in addition to her husband, are their children Philip Schmelzer Jr. of Frankenmuth, Patti LaChance of Midland, Peggy Mocny (David Briggs) of Glenville, New York, Peter (Gina) Schmelzer of Gardnerville, Nevada, Mike Schmelzer of Frankenmuth, and Mark Schmelzer of Frankenmuth. She is survived by grandchildren Erin Mocny of Niskayuna, New York, Logan LaChance of Midland, Jeffrey Schmelzer of Carson City, Nevada; great-granddaughter Aubree Mocny of Niskayuna, New York; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
Sally was predeceased by their son Paul Schmelzer in 1984, by her parents, and by her siblings Kris Reynolds, Sue Reese, Edgar Greer, Kathleen Simmons, and Wallace Greer.
The family would like to share a special thank you to the Care Team Hospice and the staff of Medilodge of Frankenmuth.
Per Sally's wishes, she has been cremated. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 958 E. Tuscola St., Frankenmuth. Sally's family will receive visitors at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to your local blood bank or a memorial to the Alzheimer's Association or the Care Team Hospice.
