Thomas O. Steinbauer

Thomas Oscar Steinbauer passed away on Sunday May 8 th , surrounded by his family. Thomas was born at home on November 29, 1941, in Bay City Michigan to the late Dorothy (Leinberger) and Oscar Steinbauer. He attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw and graduated in 1959. While attending the Seminary, he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Carole Balko. They married in 1962 and would have celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary on May 12, 2022. They were blessed with two children, Kevin Steinbauer of Bay City, MI and Holly Foster of Marshall, MI.

After high school Tom attended and graduated from Northeastern School of Commerce before starting his banking career at People's National Bank in Bay City. He began his career as a messenger and held most every position in the bank including President. He continued his education earning his master's degree from Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University in New Jersey. He went on to become Chief Financial Officer of People's Holding Company later known as New Century, thus bringing him to reside in Frankenmuth. After retiring from the bank, he pursued another career as a Financial Advisor working for Merrill Lynch and later Citizens Bank until his final retirement in 1996.

During Tom's life and banking career, he was active in his community holding many roles in civic, church and banking organizations. Tom also taught banking classes for many years at Delta College. He had many hobbies including, boating, fishing, golfing, traveling with friends and family, and especially hunting with his son, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Tom was proudest of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

Surviving Tom are his wife, Carole, his son, Kevin (Amy) Steinbauer; daughter, Holly (Paul) Foster; five grandchildren, JT Steinbauer, Taylor (Tom) Carstons, Cam Foster, Wade Foster, and Katie Foster; one great grandchild, Jameson Thomas Steinbauer, sister-in-law, Nancy Balko, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Arthur Balko; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Larry Scheuerlein and brother-in-law, Wayne Balko; sisters, Carol Reinhart and Betty Reider; brother, Robert Steinbauer.

Funeral services will take place Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1200 E. Genesee, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Patrick Ernst will officiate, with burial to take place in St. John's Cemetery. Tom's family will receive visitors at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frankenmuth.
