Vera Anita Kern completed her walk on this earth as she was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 7, at the age of 101.

Born June 3, 1917, daughter of Lorenz and Hilda (Knoll) Keinath, she was baptized on June 17, 1917 and confirmed on March 29, 1931 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth. Her confirmation verse is Matthew 6:33 , "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Vera married Helmuth "Dick" Kern on her birthday in 1945.  He predeceased her on March 26, 1991.

She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Richville, where she was a charter member of their Mary Martha Missionary Guild, served on the Altar Guild, was involved in Thursday morning Bible Class and quilters, and was a church office volunteer.  She also volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Shop for many years. She was an avid walker around Richville long before walking was considered a healthy recreation.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Ken) Block and Pauline (Mark) Nuechterlein; five grandchildren, Amy (Gregg) Garrett, Erin (Charridan) Wascher, Bryan (Jane) Block, Darby (Kevin) Tozer, Garrett (Heather) Nuechterlein; eleven great-grandchildren, Levi, Hagan and Dierk Wascher; Spencer and Caleb Garrett, Griffin and Sylvie Block, Charlotte, Eloise and Gibson Tozer, and Penelope Nuechterlein; a sister-in-law, Lorna Kern.

She was preceded in death by brothers Wilmer Keinath and Harlan Keinath, and sister Elsie List; brothers-in-law Clarence, Bert and Arnold Kern and Fred List; sisters-in-law Milda Keinath and Lorine Keinath.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 10, 2018, at noon at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 3455 S. Van Buren Road, Richville, Michigan. Rev. Wesley Gillaspie and Rev. Rob Gadeken will officiate with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Vera's family will receive visitors on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements entrusted to Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Mary Martha Guild of St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Richville, MI or to a charity of their choice.
