Verna Veitengruber

Verna Veitengruber went to her heavenly home on April 27, 2020 at age 95. Verna was the firstborn of Balthas and Lydia (Bernthal) Weiss, born on February 14, 1925 in Frankenmuth, MI. She was a lifelong member at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth where she was baptized, confirmed and also married there to Edwin H. Veitengruber who preceded her in death on November 13, 2015. She was also preceded in death by son Kenneth, brothers Don, Elmer and Martin Weiss; sister, Ruth Schluckbier and sisters-in-law, Marie Weiss and Lorna Weiss.

She is survived by daughter Connie Larsen (Robert Bergmann), daughter-in-law, Christine Veitengruber; grandchildren, Sarah (Ted) Hockensmith, Karen (Ander) Roth , Alan (Kelsey) Veitengruber, Katrina (Garret) Scharrer, Kelsey (Steve) McQuown, great-grandchildren, also sisters Doris Reda & Ellen Jaquish, nephews and nieces.

She enjoyed baking and sewing, and friends and relatives were gifted with many labors of love in those areas. During the summertime, she kept a garden and made sure that nothing went to waste. After working a lifetime on the family dairy farm alongside her husband Ed, they greatly enjoyed travelling in retirement and visited many far away destinations. Verna also enjoyed spending time at their cottage in Caseville, especially fishing on the pontoon boat. She was a loyal Detroit Tiger fan and was eagerly looking forward to the 2020 season.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private funeral service will take place on Friday, May 1, 2020. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider The Lutheran Hour or St. Lorenz Church. Arrangements entrusted to Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth.
