Viola P. Gugel

Frankenmuth, MI

Our dear mom, grandma, great-grandma, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Wellspring Lutheran Services, Frankenmuth; age 91 years.  Viola Pauline Bernthal was born on June 20, 1927 in Frankenmuth, Michigan to the late Wilfred and Olga (Stern) Bernthal.  Viola was baptized at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church on July 3, 1927.  She confirmed her faith on April 6, 1941, her confirmation verse being "But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" (Matthew 24:13 KJV).  Viola was married to Roland Gugel on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church by Rev. A. C. Klammer; he predeceased her on May 20, 2014.  As a member of St. Lorenz LWML, she took great care in cross-stitching baptismal plaques for newly baptized infants and children.  She was the former owner/stylist of Up-Town Beauty Salon, her patrons being some of her dearest friends.

Surviving are: her children Kathryn (Gary) Conzelmann, Barbara (Max) Nettleton, Patricia (Dale) Parr, Michael (Polly) Gugel; grandchildren Eric Conzelmann, Ryan (Kathleen) Conzelmann, Karl (Noelle) Conzelmann, Amber (Patrick) Stack, Jeffrey Parr, Christopher (Rachel) Parr, Abigail Parr,  Kathryn Parr (fiancé John Wayne Comunale), and Hannah Gugel; great-grandchildren Thomas, Clare, and Lucy Conzelmann; Danny, Michael, and Maggie Stack; Aliya Parr; Miles, Willow, and Rowan Parr; two brothers Hildred Bernthal and Harold (Peggy) Bernthal; brother-in-law Harry Bierlein; sister-in-law Marilyn Bernthal; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Viola was predeceased by a sister Elvera Bierlein; brothers Willard Bernthal and Roy Bernthal; sisters-in-law Shirley Bernthal, Olga (Oswald) Nuechterlein, Ruth (Robert) Nuechterlein, and Edna Gugel.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. and 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.  Rev. Caleb Adams will officiate with burial between services in St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery.  Viola's family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
