Walter E. Engel

Went to be with his Lord Sunday, August 30, 2020, at his home, age 89 years. Walter was born on July 29, 1931 in Saginaw, MI to the late Gustav and Lydia Engel. After he graduated Arthur Hill High School, he served in the US Army as a Sgt. In Radio Communications in Korea. He was married to Annemarie Leprich on November 29, 1952; she predeceased him on February 24, 2010. Walter owned and operated Wally's Radio and TV for 5 years and then worked 31 years for Carling/Heileman Brewery. After the Brewery closed, he went to work at Walmart in Caro. Then, he continued repairing Tube-type radios for 25 years. He drove a limo and played Santa Claus for 3 years at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. He was a lifelong member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Walter was an avid reader, he loved clocks, and Mickey Mouse.

Surviving are: 3 daughters and a son; Susan Engel Barnes, Michele (Philip) Freiberger, Michael (Judy) Engel, Maryanne (Kevin) Lentner; 5 grandsons Patrick and Jason Kinney, Aaron(Allison) Engel, Lucas and Michael Lentner; 2 great-grandchildren Colton and Emma; sisters-in-law Irene Engel, Rose Foster, Margot (John) Schellhas; brother-in-law Elek (Karen) Szilagyi and many nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by brother Raymond Engel, son-in-law Edward Barnes, and brothers-in-law John (Elfiede) Leprich and Steven Szilagyi.

Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 4, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate. Walter's family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The Engel family sends special thanks for their loving care to Winter Village, Laurus Home Care, Wellspring Lutheran Services and Americans Hospice. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 150, and Pet Angel Adoption.
