Walter Roenicke
Saginaw, MI
Walter Allen Roenicke, born December 29th, 1934 to Walter and Helen Roenicke, went to be with his Lord and Savior the morning of September 30th 2026.
Wally was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he also was youth director and taught Sunday school.
He was an avid outdoorsman and anxiously awaited opening day every Autumn. Wally imported and bred Large Muensterlanders. “One Shot” Wally loved being in the woods watching his dogs work. Many hours were spent with family and friends, searching for the next best “honey hole,” where the birds flew and fell.
His love for the outdoors didn’t stop there. He was passionate about skiing, and took countless trips out West, making memories with his family and family of friends. He also was a ski instructor at Mt. Holly.
He was truly one of the kindest, most loyal and steady men. No one was ever a stranger and quickly became a friend.
Wally owned and operated W.A Roenicke Nursery and Garden Shop. His life’s work kept him outside, where he was an incredibly talented landscape designer. He had an eye for making the mundane beautiful.
In 1967, after just two short months, he married his true love, Norma Jean. They shared nearly 59 years together.
Surviving beside his wife, Norma, a son, Scott (Rhonda) Roenicke, and a daughter, Charisse (Bill) Veresh. Grandchildren; Nicole, Rachel and Kailey Roenicke, Ian Taylor and Nina (Morgan) Huegel.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Helen Roenicke and his sisters Joanne (Carl) Pohlman and Jean (Curtis) Thornton.
Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, 1030 W. Tuscola, Frankenmuth, Michigan. Walter’s family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Wally truly cherished and loved not only his family, but his family of friends.
