William also known as Wilhelm or Bill was born on February 1, 1938 to Frederick Phillip and Ada Catherine (McGinnis) Laegler in Saginaw, Michigan. Bill was the sole surviving sibling to a sister Mary Jane who died early in infancy and a second sister Doris Ann who perished prior to birth. His parents Frederick and Ada predeceased William in 1985 and 1987 respectively.

William served in the United States Air Force from September 1961 through September 1965, serving in the Public Information and Relation department for the Strategic Air Command based in South Dakota. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding service for his work on Internal Information publications within his assigned base.

William eventually returned to Saginaw to take care of his parents and became a reporter and page editor for "The Saginaw News." William later became the managing editor for "The Weekly Wave/St. Ignace News" in St. Ignace, MI and editor for "The Communicator" as part of his role as the Public Relations Director for the Chippewa-Luce-Mackinac Community Action Human Resource Authority located in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

William completed his working career as a tour guide for the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn and finally as owner-operator of Frankenmuth Tours, Frankenmuth, MI using his vast knowledge of Michigan and Frankenmuth in particular to entertain and educate visitors to the Frankenmuth area.

Concurrent with his working career, William continued his education and interest in Christ his Lord by attending the Central Bible College in Detroit and the Berean School of the Bible in Springfield, MO. William served as interim pastor for the Assembly of God in Chesaning, MI as a Missions America Correspondent for the Pentecostal Evangel in Springfield, MO, editorial consultant for From My Father's Heart published by the Palmer Publishing House, editor for The Jaycee Michigander and Keynotes for the Detroit Michigan Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and editor/publisher for the "He's Touchable" publication based in Sault Ste. Marie and Saginaw, MI.

William demonstrated his faith and dedication to the Lord with multiple roles in editing and publishing various religious publications as listed above as well as counseling, preaching, teaching, and visitations including a prison ministries in Kincheloe, Michigan.

Prior to retirement, William settled in Frankenmuth and became a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church where he worshipped regularly until health issues prevented physical participation. He still participated as best he could with the help of his friends and neighbors from St. Lorenz. He was also a contributing member of the Frankenmuth Historical Association with his interests in local history and family genealogy.

Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, March 25 th , 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Cederberg Funeral Home, 590 N. Franklin St., Frankenmuth, MI.  Pastor Shawn Fenske will officiate. Bill will receive visitors on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Bill will later be buried at St. Lorenz Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Stephen Ministries.
